MARCI (OF TOPS) PRESENTS NEW SINGLE/VIDEO, “KITY”
if it’s too good to be true then it probably is
Marci — the solo project of Montreal soft-rock group TOPS’ Marta Cikojevic — returns with a new single/video, “KITY.” “KITY” marks Cikojevic’s first release following her acclaimed 2022 debut album, Marci, and is presented alongside a chic video directed by Allison Goldfarb. “KITY” is immediately infectious, clocking in at just over 2 minutes and boasting an undeniable groove. “If there’s anybody else,” Cikojevic emits with a cool indifference, “Can you keep it to yourself?” In her own words, “KITY” is “about being lead into a situation without knowing the whole story — if it’s too good to be true then it probably is.”
Can you keep it to yourself?
Alongside longtime collaborator David Carriere (TOPS, Born At Midnite), Cikojevic crafts music that sounds warm and vintage, touching on musical hallmarks of hit songs past, all while remaining sharply futuristic. Her self-titled debut album as Marci found catharsis in all its forms, whether it be through a crying session behind closed doors or the euphoria that hits when you hear your favorite song on the radio. A natural extension of Marci’s guileless collection of songs that brim with unabashed sincerity, “KITY” cements Cikojevic’s status as a synth-pop trailblazer.
