The Eraser is the experience of the past meeting the desires of the future. The Eraser is the story of change, of transformation of memories into other memories.
The absorption of a form by another one, a bigger one. The Eraser represent the evolution of ordinary and unknown racism.
He was born in DRC in the 80’s and moved to Brussels few years after. He understands really fast he’s different from the other kids. He has to face racism from a really young age. And like many other kids, he internalize that daily violence in order to keep going in life. But soon, he’s told that he’s not like the other black kids either.
He’s told that he’s too white, or not black enough. Then everything mixes in his head.
It took him years to acknowledge the distance that separates him FROM his real nature, but also from his own community.
HE TOOK REFUGE IN THE DISTANCE, SURELY TO HEAL HIS WOUNDS. BUT NOW, HE WANTS TO GET BACK IN THE COMMUNITY. BECAUSE HE NEEDS THEM, AS MUCH AS THEY NEED HIM.
Now that he’s older he wants to reclaim that past he never had.
He’s trying to populate his memory with people of his own to be accepted by the community.
But memory is a tricky one… There might be some glitches and bugs.
And starting to dig the past always brings up unexpected things.
