JESSY LANZA ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM + new VIDEO/SINGLE “MIDNIGHT ONTARIO”
Jessy lanza announces new album out JULY 28 WITH NEW video/single “midnight ontario” out now
Jessy Lanza announces her new album, Love Hallucination, out via Hyperdub on July 28 heralded by new single “Midnight Ontario,” featuring a music video directed by Infinite Vibes. With her most recent release, “Don't Leave Me Now,” and a busy tour schedule with Yaeji, the dance music mastermind is primed to give us a look into a bolder, more authentic Jessy.
Co Produced by Jessy, Jacques Greene, “Midnight Ontario” is a dramatic and open hearted song, with vocals in R&B 'diva' mode. It's skippy production and phrasing nods to both 2 step and Janet Jackson balladering, with just enough strangeness in its big chords. Lyrically, it's an imploring call for her lover to step up to her own passion, with a nod to Roy Batty's famous last words, revisited to express her fear her love is going unnoticed and unmatched.
Jessy calls Love Hallucination her “trust fall”
Director Infinite Vibes shared his thoughts behind the video: “I’m mostly trying to accentuate what I felt from the song which has a beautiful, hazy atmosphere that's sometimes strangely unsettling - along with homages to LA & Ontario, with references to real life events that are rendered in a dreamy way. It's based around a technique which I've been honing for a couple of years which involves creating 3D animations and augmenting them through AI, in this case Stable Diffusion. It's been a really fun one to make and I can't wait to hear the track nice and loud on some dancefloors."
Jessy calls Love Hallucination her “trust fall,” having just moved from the Bay Area to sunny LA, the singer-producer steps into a newfound confidence and personal authenticity. The album’s sleek and evolved sound is a breath of fresh air, facilitated by producers Jacques Greene, David Kennedy, Paul White, Jeremy Greenspan, and Marco 'Tensnake' Niermeski expanding her production toolbox. From club-ready songs to more downbeat and sultry works, Love Hallucination reminds us of falling into depths of love but being self-assured enough to trust one’s instincts.
Leading up to Love Hallucination, Jessy’s kept busy performing for A Club Called Rhonda, Pitchfork Live at Coachella 2023, All Points East festival in the UK, and Montreal’s own Igloofest. This spring she accompanied Yaeji on a US tour and this summer will appear at Pitchfork Festival London. Pitchfork says her recent single “Don’t Leave Me Now” “pushes Lanza into the zone of big-tent favorites” while Resident Advisor says it “comes out sounding triumphant and self-assured, a slice of glittery synth pop heaven.” Jessy’s last album, All The Time, was released in 2020, garnering year-end accolades from Pitchfork, Paste, Gothamist, and Beats Per Minute.
